Privacy Policy

We collect information from appraisers who create accounts. We also receive information about insureds and nominated umpires that those appraisers upload. Insureds and umpires typically never visit this site. The uploading appraiser represents that they have authority to provide that information, as stated in the Terms Of Service.

1.4 Umpire Select LLC is the controller of personal information processed to operate Umpire Select. Appraisers who upload claim or umpire details do so under their own engagement with their principal. If you need a data processing agreement, email privacy@umpireselect.com.

Account: legal name, email, company, phone, password hash, and IP addresses on signatures.

Claim files: claim number, insured name, loss address, date of loss, carrier, and jurisdiction. That is personal information about people who did not sign up.

Selection records: nominated umpire names, companies, phones, and emails; strikes; consent names; seeds; and the record PDF after a draw.

Technical: logs needed to operate, secure, and debug the service, including authentication cookies.

To run selections, issue records, contact you about your account, detect abuse, comply with law, and (when billing is live) process payment. We do not use insured or umpire contact details for marketing.

Do not upload Social Security numbers, medical records, driver's license images, bank accounts, or other sensitive data that is not needed to identify a claim and run a selection.

The draw is an automated selection among umpires the two appraisers already nominated. It does not profile people, score credit, or make a decision about an insured's eligibility or claim value.

We use vendors to host and operate the service. The current list is on the Subprocessors page. Each processor handles data under its own terms.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We have not sold or shared personal information in the preceding 12 months. We do not use insured or umpire contact details for marketing.

6.7 Claim files and selection records in Umpire Select are not made available to Umpire Select LLC's adjusting staff for use as an adjusting file, except where a Umpire Select LLC appraiser is a party to that selection and sees only what any other participating appraiser would see.

Nominated umpires did not create accounts. An umpire may email privacy@umpireselect.com to ask what we hold and to request correction or deletion where the law allows. We may keep a completed record even if a contact field is later limited.

We limit access to production data, encrypt claim and contact personal information at rest, decrypt it only to show a signed-in appraiser their own files, transmit data over HTTPS, and keep operator tools on a separate console that cannot join a selection. No security measure is perfect. Report suspected issues to security@umpireselect.com.

If we confirm a breach that the law requires us to report, we will notify affected people and regulators as required, including under the Illinois Personal Information Protection Act where it applies. This paragraph does not claim that a written information-security program under the Illinois Insurance Data Security Law is already in place. Counsel is reviewing that obligation separately.

Completed selection records, including the record PDF, are kept for 10 years, or longer if law requires, so a later dispute can still be checked against the published draw. That period is pending counsel review against Illinois limitations periods. Open drafts may be deleted sooner.

When a deletion request is honored for a completed selection, we redact and minimise contact fields rather than destroying the authentic record of the draw. True anonymisation (data that can never be re-linked to a person) is not what this process does. This record is generated by Umpire Select software. It is not a court record, a court order, an award, an appointment, a legal opinion, or a certification that a court has approved the selection.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know, access, correct, delete, or obtain a portable copy of personal information, and to appeal a denial. We give the same request mechanics to everyone rather than a state-by-state maze, except where a statute requires a different result.

Email privacy@umpireselect.com. We will verify the request (for an appraiser, usually from the account email; for an insured or umpire, enough detail to locate the file). We aim to respond within 45 days, or longer if the law allows and we tell you why. An authorized agent may submit a request with proof of authority. We do not charge for a first request in a 12-month period unless the law allows a fee for excessive requests.

12.6 If we deny a request, you may appeal by emailing privacy@umpireselect.com with the word “appeal” and the original request. If the appeal is denied, we will tell you of any regulator complaint right that applies.

Appraisers may update account details in Account Settings.

An appraiser on a claim uploaded your name or contact details so two appraisers could select an umpire. You usually will not have an account here. You may email privacy@umpireselect.com to ask what we hold. If you were nominated as an umpire, you are under no obligation to serve. This site does not appoint you and does not decide a claim.

Claim file information about an insured may be nonpublic personal information under federal insurance-privacy rules. We use it only to run the selection, issue the record, and meet retention and legal duties. Whether a GLBA exemption applies in our hands is for counsel to confirm.

We use a necessary authentication cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising cookies. Analytics or error tools, if added later, will be listed on the Subprocessors page.

Umpire Select is for professional appraisers. It is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

We may update this policy. The current version will be posted here. Material changes will be noted in the Privacy Archive. Continued use after a posted change is acceptance, except where law requires a different notice.
